We are working on adding and subtracting fractions, it can be rather challenging but the students are doing great!!!

Brandon G. and Lila doing a close read of the article "Malala's Dream" in our Weekly Reader this week.
Malala is the young girl in Pakistan that continued to go to school even after the Taliban said girls were not allowed. She was shot by the Taliban and survived, she was awarded the International Children's Peace Prize. This article has lead us to some great conversations about what a great nation we live in.

Today in math we worked in groups solving story problems. Here are the steps we use to solve solve the story problems.

  1. Read the problem 3 times.
  2. Write down or highlight the important informarmation / Also what question is being asked
  3. Decide on operation(s) Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division
  4. Do work and label answer.
  5. Check to see if your answer is reasonable.

Today we took the Chapter 4 Social Studies Test so next week we will be moving on to Chapter 5, "The Settlement of North America". I have posted a link to the study guide without the answers now and I will put the answers in as we move through the chapter.

Today we reviewed Comparing, Ordering, and Rounding Whole Numbers. We did great on comparing and ordering, however we all need to brush up a little on our rounding. I have put a couple of links below for rounding please check those out and get some extra practice!
